Chosen solution

Use Alt+F to open the File menu if you want to see the Close Tab entry.
You can also close a tab with a middle-click on that tab or via the right-click context menu of a tab.

Some menu entries in the main menu bar are hidden if you use the mouse and only appear if you use the keyboard to open the menu (Bug 626825).
You can see the difference if you use Alt+F to open the File menu or other menus like the Edit menu (Alt+E) and Bookmarks menu (Alt+B) and compare that to what you see if you use the mouse to open the menu after you have made the menu bar visible by tapping Alt or by pressing F10.

thanks for responding, however my problem still exists, for example when reading an e-mail & want to close it I can't unless I exit the system. It takes me back to the page before logging off. If I am studying something on Google for example & want to close file I can't as I DON"T HAVE A BUTTON ANY LONGER........I have tried everything you said to NO avail......I will have to change search engines. I am very upset by this......

Do you see any toolbar?

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: command+Shift+F).
If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.
You can click the Maximize button at the top right to leave full screen mode or right click empty space on a toolbar and use "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press F11.

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).
