Will the bookmarks I currently have on IE8 automatically transfer to firefox when it is installed or do I have to manually save and transfer after loading firefox? Does firefox come with a default search engine and/or can I use any search engine?

Chosen solution

You can have as many browsers installed as you want, but only one browser can be the default browser that is used when you click a link or open an HTML file via another program.

Firefox usually can find and import your IE bookmarks. In some cases, users with large numbers of bookmarks or deeply nested folders have reported an incomplete import. If that happens to you, post back for assistance.

Firefox by default uses Google for searches. There are many other choices, but other than the search box where it is very easy to switch on the fly, changing your search engine (for the address bar and home page) requires some tinkering under the covers. Again, if you have a different preference, post back for specifics.

Would the bookmarks been imported automatically? I have a lot of bookmarks.

Can Windows XP support two browsers at one time or would IE be disabled or need to be removed from the 'add/remove programs' so there isn't a conflict between the browsers?

Thanks for the help.

You won't need to, and you shouldn't try to, remove IE. It shares components with other parts of Windows, and some sites (such as Windows Update) use ActiveX controls that only run in IE.

Thanks again for the help. I'll probably give it a try.
