I am using a number of pinned tabs. But since the latest release of FireFox, they flash briefly as FireFox starts, but are then hidden. They still take up space, more than if I could see them but I can't delete them or do anything with them.

You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.

You can also try to open a new window and drag all tabs to that new window to see if it works better in that window.
Close the not working window and close and restart Firefox to test this.

This didn't help. I deleted localstore.rtf, but saw the same thing. See the attached screenshot. The long blank area just below the developer toolbar and to the left of the regular tabs is where the pinned tabs were. Actually, they used less room. At this point I can't see them, use them or delete they and they take up a lot of tab area.

Everything was fine until the latest software update a few days ago.

If you delete localstore.rdf then all toolbar customization should revert to the default and your screenshot already shown (new) customization.

Did you check this without making any modifications?

Did you place the Bookmarks Toolbar items on the tab bar?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

The screenshot was taken immediately after I deleted localstore.rtf, without making any modifications.

Safe Mode showed that it was a plugin causing the problem. Actually, it wasn't a plugin it was the theme I was using. Deleted the theme, and everything is working now.

Thanks for the help.
