Sometimes when I start Firefox, I get a window that gives me two choices, start in safe mode or reset firefox. Other times it starts up normally. Why?

This has been happening since the upgrade to v.16. I am using Mac OSX 10.6.8. It is sporadic.

It sounds like you are accidentally starting Firefox in Safe Mode, are you holding down the Shift key? Firefox is stuck in Troubleshoot Mode

On a Mac Firefox starts in Safe mode if the Option key is pressed when Firefox is started.

This can also happen if Firefox has crashed a few times or didn't close properly.

You can check for hanging Firefox processes in the system monitor or the Mac equivalent of it.
