My computer just updated Firefox and now I cannot drag buttons into the bookmarks toolbar. It just pops up the no symbol and won't let me. I have been doing this for years and this is the first time I have had any issues. I have tried with about twenty different websites and none of them will work. I even tried just saving the pages I want as bookmarks under the bookmarks toolbar section but those aren't showing up either. Nothing is working.

What "buttons" are you trying to drag to the Bookmarks Toolbar?

The usual method is to drag the Favicon image from either the left side of a Tab or from the Location bar. If that isn't working for you, maybe you have an add-on installed which is blocking that action.

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there.
A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.
Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Firefox SafeMode

  • You can open the Firefox 15.0+ SafeMode by holding the Shft key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or use the Help menu item, click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled... while Firefox is running.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.

If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.

I didn't mean to say buttons. I am still used to that from the google toolbar. I meant favicons. And by the way, all it shows in the url bar right now is a lock symbol. It did work in safe mode. Even the things I saved in the bookmarks showed up. Once back in normal mode, I disabled all of the extensions, restarted and it didn't work again. I tried the trouble shooting methods, none of those worked either. It wasn't hardware acceleration or my theme. If it worked in Safe mode, it has to be fixable, right? I took a screen shot of me trying to drag a favicon to the bookmarks toolbar, just in case it might be helpful. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y216.../Untitled_zps7c0f8982.jpg
