On Windows XP x64, why can I upgrade to 20.0.1, but can't install it directly?

I've tried installing 20.0.1 directly downloaded from the site, and got "doesn't run on your OS" (paraphrase) When I installed 3.6.13, and hit the upgrade button (once to FF12, once to 20.0.1...) I'm now running 20.0.1... why the run-around?

I am not too sure, but possibly you tried to download the wrong version. You should not have problems in future. The upgrade procedure has been streamlined since the days of Firefox 3.6 .

I just used the download link on the Firefox homepage...
