The search box on Google.com is gone since I upgraded to FF 22.0. I uninstalled & reinstalled FF & disabled all the add ons & dumped search.json & search.sqlite. In Internet Explorer it still works fine so I know it has to be a problem with FF 22.0. If nothing else how can I just back up to an older version as the older one worked fine.

Hi, install this addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/
This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.
It should not be gone.
- Is this just on your Firefox homepage ?
- access that quickly by typing about:home in to the address bar
Check that you have java enabled. Maybe you have some odd script or add blocker interfering, try in safemode and with all plugins disabled. (You may also get odd Google problems if you block cookies)
- Also try plain old google.com does that work ok ?
- Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode
- JavaScript settings and preferences for interactive web pages
- Enhanced Tracking Protection in Firefox for desktop
Or have I misunderstood is it the search box option you are asking about?
(And I think it is only Fx 23 where the search bar and other search options are the same and all change together to match whatever is selected)
I know it should not be gone, that's kind of the problem. It's only when I go to google.com Firefox’s homepage works. I have tried it in safe mode and with all the add ons disabled and it doesn’t help. I saw a suggestion in the knowledge base about deleting the search.json and search. SQLite files from the Firefox profile folder so I did that. No help. I updated all my Java. Nada. I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. Same thing. Internet Explorer works fine and this problem did not occur until after I updated to V22.0. Apparently it has something to do with this update because that is the only thing that has changed. The old version worked great and IE works great.
Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.
Make sure that you haven't enabled a High Contrast theme in the Windows/Mac Accessibility settings.
Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors in Firefox.
- Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"
Note that these settings affect background images.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Firefox uses the about: protocol to access built-in about: pages that you can open via the location bar just like you open web pages.

- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.
