firefox 22 automatically updates to version 23 even though I have selected in the advance update filed "never check for updates selected"

To disable this, try the following:

  1. Type about:config into Firefox's address bar
  2. Find the preference with the name app.update.auto
  3. Change the value to false by double clicking the preference

The value is already "False" demonstrating that Firefox 32 has set the parameter correctly.

However I cannot account for the change in which it updated. If this is not a bug I will investigate Malware with Mac OS 10.8.4.

Some anti-virus programs such as McAfee AntiVirus Plus, will update Firefox and other programs automatically.
