Why do I have multiple copies of my synched bookmarks?

When I look in the Bookmarks Menu of Library, there are multiple copies of single bookmarked pages not placed in folders. They also appear after clicking on the Firefox box in the top left-hand corner and then Bookmarks. I periodically delete the extra copies, but would like to stop it from happening.

Such a problem with bookmarks can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You may have to stop (disconnect) Sync temporarily when fixing this issue.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Thanks, cor-el, but that wasn't it. Having looked at the Bookmarks library in detail, there have been 3 or 4 times when duplicated single Bookmarks were added. Those times also correspond to new added dates for the Bookmarks in folders. It's as if the Bookmarks were merged with another, synched computer; bookmarks in folders were simply replaced or updated, but single bookmarks were added again and are distinguished by different Added dates. Curious that it only happens a few times a year. My PC is synched with another one rarely used, and perhaps not on the same FF version, so it might be a synch problem. I'll clean it up manually again and keep a closer watch on the problem.
