When I open a new tab, how do I get the standard new tab page?

When I open a new page, I get AVG Secure Search as the new page. I want the standard new page that Firefox provides where I can organize my top sites on the new page. I don't want AVG but I cannot get rid of it.

Chosen solution

hello sageventure, you can either install the search reset addon or manually reset the new tab page by entering about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up), searching for the preference named browser.newtab.url and right-clicking & resetting it to its default value (about:newtab).

That may work but the following did work: 1. Open firefox 2. Type About:Config on the address bar 3. Proceed to the firefox settings 4. Search for avg.userPreferences.newtab or avg.userPreferences.newtabDisabledByUser 5. set the value to " True " 6. Restart firefox 7. Issue resolved

Omg thank you soo much! I was reading other people's comments and one of them said 'If I don't solve this problem, I am going to feel like I am going to poop bricks' and I was like 'Yeah, me to' and it was driving me nuts because I was writing an essay and I couldn't stop getting distracted by trying to get rid of the Avg NewTab thing. Pew, thanks sageventure!
