For the past week I am not able to login to my Bank of America and T Rowe Price accounts using Firefox. Both places show the same problem: I enter my login id, it asks me my password, I enter my password and it goes back to the first screen and asks my login id again. It does not report any error. It keeps going in this loop.

I don't have any problems if I use IE or Chrome. I am using Windows Vista.

I removed all cookies and that did not solve the problem. After that I uninstalled firefox from my computer and downloaded the latest version and installed it again. Still, I can't login to my bank accounts. I don't have a problem logging into other back accounts; just these two. One week earlier I did not have any problem with Firefox. What can be the problem and how do I fix it?

Hi mkapoor, the main change in Safe Mode that seems relevant would be disabling ALL your extensions. Since extensions may update in the background, it could be that one of them has had a minor change of functionality, or perhaps you installed a new one.

Could you try disabling your nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page? Hopefully the problem is one of those and not something highly useful to you. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions.

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does that help?

What are your cookie settings? To make sure the site can set both first party and third party cookies, please see this article: Websites say cookies are blocked - Unblock them.

Some sites may use "local storage" either in Firefox or in Flash and not work correctly without it. However, I don't know whether that is relevant to these two sites. Do you recall changing any settings, or installing any add-ons, relating to local storage (for Firefox, also called DOM Storage, for Flash, also called LSOs or Flash Cookies)?

Some sites track your IP address and/or other connection information to avoid session hijacking. If you are using a private VPN, TOR, or other service that could have the effect of changing your connection to such site between requests, then it will be impossible to log on. You could try "No proxy" on the following screen and see whether that helps:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button

Could you try the sites in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

Hi, I had one unrecognizable extension that I just removed. Now it works in safe mode also. Thanks for your help!
