I have noticed that at least one of the keyboard shortcuts listed in some menus for Mac Firefox is incorrect. Why? The shortcut to open the Add-ons is reported to be shift-cmd-E, which actually opens the tab groups window. I found that the correct shortcut for Add-ons should be shift-cmd-A. Why put the wrong item in the menu?

Hi finitarry, I doubt that such errors are intentional! Which language version are you using? Do you want to file a bug for it?

I am using en-GB. Probably not much point now. I use FF 24esr.

If it has been fixed in 31esr, I agree there's no point filing a bug on 24esr now. But I have no idea (no Mac!).

I'm not seeing this in the Firefox 24.8.1 en-GB language pack

<!ENTITY addons.label "Add-ons">
<!ENTITY addons.accesskey "A">
<!ENTITY addons.commandkey "A">

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

I very much doubt that hardware acceleration has anything to do with the shortcut information in the menus. The menu bar in a Mac is not inside the application window, but outside it at the top of the screen. It is not a big deal. I was just wondering why the wrong shortcut would be listed on a menu item.

Try to remove the Firefox plist file (org.mozilla.firefox.plist).

Go to "~/Library/Preferences" and remove the plist file for Firefox (org.mozilla.firefox.plist)

Did that, made no difference. I usually use point & click for that anyway. I have a nice toolbar button from MR Tech Toolkit.

There are some add-ons and even programs on the computer that may have the same hot key. And if one hot key is set for two different actions . . . . .

Customizable Shortcuts {web link} Allows to customize Firefox shortcuts.

This will also show you all the shortcuts Firefox is using.

Do these shortcuts show correctly if you inspect the browser.dtd file via the location bar?

  • view-source:chrome://browser/locale/browser.dtd
  • view-source:resource:///chrome/en-GB/locale/browser/browser.dtd

From both "view-source:chrome://browser/locale/browser.dtd" and "view-source:resource:///chrome/en-GB/locale/browser/browser.dtd," I get: !ENTITY addons.label "Add-ons" !ENTITY addons.accesskey "A" !ENTITY addons.commandkey "A" Those are correct. It is just the label in the menu that is wrong. The problem is within the text that Firefox sends to Mac OS to put in the menu when it gains focus.

Why do less than and greater than symbols not appear here, and make everything between them disappear, regardless of what is in the middle?
