Frequent crashes
I'm troubleshooting a problem for a friend who has had frequent Firefox crashes. We've tried all the standard solutions; resetting firefox to it's default state, updating plugins, disabling add-ons, etc.
The crashes seem random; sometimes they will take a long time to happen, other times they happen immediately. A few particular sites were suspected, but avoiding them didn't provide a solution.
I've got several crash reports, but have been unable to spot a common cause among them.

Hello,
The first two reports seem to have problems with atiumdag.dll and atiumdva.dll, as it is flagged in the modules tab. Try updating the ATI drivers. You can also have your friend update the latest version of Firefox, version 33.0.1, to see if that fixes the issue as well. Either go to:
- Help (or > ) > About Firefox
- or download a fresh copy at: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
You can also try disabling Hardware Acceleration in Firefox. Please see the following articles for more information.
- Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL
- Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems
The last two reports seem to be flash related. Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
- Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
- Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
- Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
- Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.
The image "fpSettings1.PNG" does not exist.
- Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
- Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
- Restart Firefox.
This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.
Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

Another common troubleshooting step for the Flash plugin is to try disabling the Protected Mode feature. The feature has security benefits, but is not compatible with all systems for some reason. You can disable it by creating or editing a settings file.
The following pages/posts provide different approaches for that:
- Adobe support article under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?
- Batch file to automate the manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/982093#answer-518078
You may need to exit and start Firefox up again before this takes effect.
Any improvement?
You can check for issues caused by plugins and set all plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins" page (plugins are not affected by Firefox Safe Mode).
I'm afraid we've tried all of these, and still are getting crashes. These new ones still seem to point to ATI being the culprit, but we've made sure we have the latest drivers.
Turning off Flash's protected mode seemed to help a little, but the problem hasn't stopped.
