Hi TREBMALTS, which box are you typing into?

On the main toolbar, Firefox has an address bar (sometimes called the Awesome bar) and also a shorter search bar. Then there are search bars on some of Firefox's built-in pages, such as the built-in home page and new tab page.

The address bar works differently from the others. Please see these article for more information:

• How to remove one or two unwanted suggestions: Remove websites from the address bar suggestions
• How to remove whole categories of suggestions (e.g., history, bookmarks): Address bar autocomplete suggestions in Firefox (section entitled "How can I control what results the location bar shows me?")

For the search bar on the main toolbar, if you right-click the input area (NOT the magnifying glass icon), you can uncheck Search Suggestions to turn those off. The in-page bars do not have that same menu, but you can use the Search section of the Options page to make the change. See: Change your default search settings in Firefox.

Sorry, on Mac, it's Ctrl+click instead of right click, and the Preferences page instead of the Options page.

When I open Firefox it is the box in the middle of the page. When I begin to type something in that box a number of suggestions appear below the box and it those suggestions I am trying to get rid of.

Okay, if that is the standard Firefox home page (example attached) try going into the Preferences page, Search section, and uncheck the box for showing suggestions from your default search engine. This is the relevant article:

Change your default search settings in Firefox

You can disable the search suggestions if you click "Change Search Settings" at the bottom of the drop-down list. This setting applies to all search bars that use the built-in search engine. You will still see the notice about what search engine is used and icons for other enabled search engines.
