I have recently started having messages show up at bottom of my screen and it's slowing my computer down. Messages say "Waiting for...." "Transferring data from...(Google maps, for example)" ... "Connecting to...." The messages come and go so fast I don't get a chance to even read the entire message. Just remember Google maps because that one is familiar to me.

These messages show the progress of loading the page. These messages have always been there in Firefox unless you would have used an extension to block them. These messages shouldn't slow down the computer under normal conditions.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
