On starting firefox no application opens. In task manager the process shows as active but the application tab shows no firefox and no window opens. Whilst in this state no other browser program can access the internet and Outlook cannot access mail. the firefox process cannot be shut down by the task manager and the computer cannot be restarted either from the start button or from task manager. A hard reset is required to get the computer out of this state. This does not seem to interfere with any programs which do not access the internet. I am running version 47 on a XP SP3 computer. Strangely after the hard reset and startup the problem does not occur again during that session.

That is a specific description. There are no screens to show the firefox window does not open but the firefox process shows in the task manager process tab but not the application tab. so it starts to run the process but fails to get far enough to open a window and in doing so freezes any process connecting to the internet.

Good evening,

please send screens. It is possible that this problem will be the age of the computer. How old is your computer? Have you tried reinstalling Firefox?

What do you want screens of? A window that does not open?

The age of the computer is irrelevant, Firefox is supposed to support windows XP and so it should work as advertised.

Firefox has been updated to 47.0.1 still the same problem. works fine after shutting down and restarting the computer.

The computer is not going to grow younger, but mozilla should ensure firefox works on all computer operating systems.

I was just wondering whether you were able to solve your problem? I am having the same issue just today, with the automatic upgrade to 49.0.1. I see the application appears to be active in the processes window of the task manager, but the application itself does not load up on the screen.

I have have spent hours and hours and tried everything - were you able to come up with a solution?
