I am having trouble signing in to my Thunderbird account. My user name/password is not being accepted. When I ask for help I am told that an e-mail has been sent to my e-mail address but it is never received. Nor is it delivered to my web-mail agent. All normal e-mails get delivered to my Thunderbird e-mail as normal.

OK, I think I might know what you are talking about.

You wanted to ask for support from Mozilla about importing an address book. You went to the support website and they wanted you to log in. So you created Mozilla Support account. Then you don't receive the e-mail with the login information.

Since you don't see that e-mail in your Webmail either, that means that this particular issue has absolutely nothing to do with Thunderbird. We here didn't understand because we thought you had a problem with receiving e-mail in Thunderbird.

So the first thing to do is check your spam folder to see if the e-mails you are expecting are there.

You should do that in any case, to deal with good e-mails being tagged as spam, and fix the spam filters.

Your original issue. You want to import your address book from Windows Live Mail to Thunderbird. Instructions are here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switching-thunderbird#w_importing-windows-mail-contacts

Sorry, but you tell us "I am having trouble signing in to my Thunderbird account" and then you go on to say "All normal e-mails get delivered to my Thunderbird e-mail as normal". That doesn't sound like you have any problem "signing in".

In order for us to better investigate this issue you need to add a little more non-personal information. To find the Troubleshooting information:

  • Open Help (or click on the button with the three-line icon and select Help).
  • Choose Troubleshooting Information.
  • Clear the check box "Include account names".
  • Use the button Copy to clipboard to select and copy all.
  • Paste this in your post.

Please post back with this information and any other questions you might have.

Yes, I know, it's an odd situation. I wanted to ask a question about importing my WinLiveMail 'contacts' list into Thunderbird so that I could close the WinLiveMail app - and found that I could not Sign in to my Thunderbird account - all Mozilla's e-mails giving me a 'user name/password' key code were never received and never appeared in my WebMail either - yet normal e-mails get through OK. - That I just do not understand.

Now, can you be more specific about where I find this Help button. Which page of which site should I be looking at? 'Sorry if that sounds a bit naïve but this is an 82 year old numpty that you are dealing with.

Believe me I am grateful to be communicating with a human after staggering around aimlessly through page after page of unhelpful information.

Right-click on an empty spot at the top of the window, and click Menu Bar. Thunderbird should now show the Menu Bar, with Help being the last item. Now click on Help, then Troubleshooting. Then follow Zeno's instructions.

Yet somehow aesculus is posting here. So the lost/missing email is really not of any further concern, is it?

Here is my attempt to explain the CSV file import process.

I don't know how useful Bruce's link will be, because I'm using Linux and it gives me a rather poor Linux-centred procedure. I am hoping that a version aimed specifically at Windows users might be more helpful to you. So my apologies if my own link simply repeats what you have been told elsewhere.

Thanks Zeno. Saw your e-mail OK. Yes ordinary e-mails seem to get through OK. But when I try to log into the Mozilla Home web page, my log in attempts are being rejected (Wrong User name/Password). When I attempt to request a change of (username/password) I get a message that a change key code has been e-mailed to me - but it never arrives. So the problem has not gone away. How can I resolve this with Thunderbird accounts? Do they have a discrete mail address that I can't find?

Thanks Bruce.

That summed things up nicely Many thanks

But you are logged in here, else we wouldn't see these postings. So what exactly is it that you can't do?

aesculus, my advice is to focus on the issue that you originally wanted to get help with.

As for why you cannot log into the Mozilla website, well, I have found that different Mozilla sections/projects/websites have different logins. Navigating them is a pain.

In my password file, I currently have separate logins for: Mozilla Wiki, Mozilla Persona (Firefox Affiliates), Mozilla Support, Firefox Add-ons, iMacros for Firefox, MozillaZine, and Bugzilla@Mozdev.

That is 7 different logins for different aspects of Mozilla. I suppose I should try to figure out if Mozilla has combined any of these.

I hear you though, because just today, I had to request a password reset for my Mozilla Support login because it wouldn't accept my password, which worked without problem last month.

Thanks Zenos. Bruce sent me the link

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switching-thunderbird#w_importing-windows-mail-contacts

that should help me import my WinLiveMail 'Contacts' list - so hopefully it's 'problem solved'.
