I know that this site and product is free but it's rapidly becoming unusable and about to be ditched by me and thousands of users. Firstly you remove support for MS SILVERLIGHT which means that I can no longer use the SKY GO website . Then today you block access to TWITTER. You have made your product completely unusable. What a shame. There was so much that was good about your product before the techy nerds took over it and imposed all of these restrictions.

twitter.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is only valid for search.dnsadvantage.com Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN

hi, we don't block twitter - it appears like your system is infected by adware/malware which is intercepting secure connections and firefox is warning you about that like it's supposed to happen. next to the security software already in place, please run a scan with various other security tools like the free version of malwarebytes, adwcleaner & eset online one-time scanner.

Your reply is disingenuous . There are no issues with any other browsers eg I.E. I am running an up to date version of Norton Security. It is obviously a fault with Mozilla . Looks like bye bye Firefox. All because the techy nerds took over .

Hi Frogleg, thank you for the certificate detail. The website "search.dnsadvantage.com" is jumping in and responding to your request for some reason. There's a good chance this is due to a rogue extension that somehow became installed in your Firefox.

Here's my suggested procedure for tracking down and cleaning up bad add-ons and other hijackers. I know it seems long, but it's really not that bad.

(1) Open the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program.

After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Be suspicious of everything you do not recognize/remember, as malware often uses important or innocent sounding names to discourage you from removing it.

Take out as much trash as possible here. If you're not sure, feel free to post program names or a screenshot of the list.

(2) Open Firefox's Add-ons page using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • in the Windows "Run" dialog, type or paste
    firefox.exe "about:addons"

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions. Note that the troublemaker might not be obvious from its name. All Mozilla extensions are hidden from this page, so what you see listed here is your choice/your responsibility to enable, disable, or remove.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Any improvement?

(3) You can search for remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools listed in our support article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.

Success?
