I downloaded a codec and ended up with this. It's not a software download and I can't see how to get rid of it! Searches in this window take me to their preferred sites. Damned annoying! How do I get rid of it?

Cheers, Alex

Good for you to be on the alert, for that easyspeedtest.co is a browser hijjacker, which you of course will want to get rid of.

Go to the 3-bar menu (or   'Tools') => Addons => Extensions and look for any unfamiliar or suspicious looking extensions. When you find any : remove them.

Also look in : 3-bar menu (or 'Tools') => Options => Advanced => Network tab => Under : 'Offline Web Content and User Data'

Do the same in Windows' Control Panel => Programs.

However :   most malware will be 'hiding' somewhere , so let's run malware scans :

Further information can be found in this article :

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners.
They all work differently   -   what one program doesn't pick up, the other might.

Thanks so much! That worked. I'm seriously fed up with how much care we have to take when downloading essential software. :( I used VirusTotal for the URL afterwards (stoopid me!) and there's no 'engine'. Weird.
