You can check the connection settings.

  • Options/Preferences -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

SSL_ERROR_NO_CYPHER_OVERLAP Your server apparently doesn't offer any cipher suites necessary to establish a secure https connection that are supported in Firefox. You can check what kind of cipher suites Firefox can make use of by visiting; https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/viewMyClient.html

Fred,

Thank you for responding. In this case I have 3 other devices at the same location that can access Amazon. Because of that I believe that it is unlikely that the server is the problem. Thank you again for taking the time to respond.

Thank you again for your efforts on my behalf. Please note that in the original message I indicated that there is no security software on this Mac, therefore security softwares conflict is not the issue. After having the problem I dl’d and ran malwarebytes. No issues were found, the problem was not resolved. My next step, unless someone offers the solution in the next hour or so will be to uninstall and then reinstall Firefox.

Thank you for taking the time to address my issue. While your written suggestion did not solve the issue the link you provided offered an alternative, to adjust the firewall settings, which did . I can only guess, possibly OSX update, at how the firewall came to be “off” but turning it on solved the issue. Thank you again for your effort on my behalf.

I tried the above fix and no change. Sometimes Amazon will connect after a minute or two, sometimes not, and even when it does, most of the time it does't load correctly(see attached image) and I have to try to refresh the page and hope that it reloads properly. This NEVER happened before Firefox Quantum came out, and I never have a problem when I'm forced to resort to Microsoft Edge...

RobPleak I see no error in the picture you posted. What is the exact error message?

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Did this help?

While you are in safe mode;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

What security software do you have?

It is possible that security software (anti-virus, firewall) is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

You can check the Web Console (Tools -> Web Developer) for messages about blocked content and about the presence of mixed or unsafe content.

You can check the Network Monitor to see if content is blocked or otherwise fails to load.

If necessary use "Ctrl+F5" or "Ctrl+Shift+R" (Mac: Command+Shift+R) to reload the page and bypass the cache to generate a fresh log.

So far, turning off hardware acceleration seems to have fixed the problem! I'll keep you posted if this changes, but thanks for the help!
