11GB memory usage really necessary?

Does Waterfox/Firefox have a memory leak in the current version?

For the last week or so my PC has been slowing to a crawl after some moderate browsing with memory usage hitting as much as 11GB (yes GB) and CPU usage 30% even with a single tab open (although Task Manager always shows a min of 3 running). My CPU (and possibly GPU) fans are operating at a noticeably higher RPM too when browsing sites like ebay and amazon. I can fix it by closing and re-opening but it only takes a few minutes for the memory usage to get to the multi GB level so I'd be constantly doing it.

hm, you may want to try asking the question in their https://www.reddit.com/r/waterfox/ channel. otherwise, switch to firefox proper :))

Waterfox is based on legacy code (pre-Quantum). There are no longer any supported releases of Firefox using pre-Quantum code. Knowledge base articles might be helpful anyway, but you'll need to use the Editing Tools in the left column to select Firefox 56 or earlier to see available content.

And more generally, check for a malware issue. During the past years, some extensions had coin miners added into them, so even if you've had an extension for a long time, consider disabling it as a test.
