I'm a longtime Firefox user on Windows PCs and Android phones. I recently bought an iPhone as my main phone, and am running Firefox (22.0) for iOS on it. Generally works okay, but I have one issue that I've not been able to resolve, one that was easy to do under Windows and Android.

I want to use as my Home page an HTML file that I created. It's what I use on my PC and also on the previous Android phone. In Firefox on my computer under Settings / Home, the Custom URL to that file looks like this:

file:///C:/Users/Myname/Documents/Misc/homepage.htm

So the file is simply "homepage.htm" that's stored in a folder called "Misc". The link is similar under Android, in that I can simply type in the path if I want.

I have that HTML file stored on the new iPhone, but I don't know how to reference it with a similar "file://etc". Nor can I simply "share" it with Firefox, as Firefox isn't offered as one of the several Share options.

When I show the Info for the file, the location is in a folder I created called "On My iPhone > My Data". So, basically, how can I reference that for the Custom URL for Firefox's home page? Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately this isn't possible on IOS, it rejects anything that isn't an weburl, it doesn't seem there is a way to do a local file for it.

I'd suggest submitting feedback about this, it might be something that can be changed on Firefox's side, but it is likely an OS limitation

Thanks evhenry, and it's maybe why I've spent so much time trying to do what is a simple task under Windows or Android. I can see that it's not a Firefox issue, it's that iOS is set up to be that way. On an Android phone, I had access to everything on the phone, for better or worse. Easy to copy music files or documents, and easy to refer to a file in the local storage for Firefox's home page. I'll wait to see if anyone else offers a though on this issue, before marking your conclusion as "problem solved". Oh, I do have one more thing to try - I'll post my home-page file on the Web, and refer to *that* as a Firefox home page. That would work, but weird if that's the only solution.

And now 5 minutes later, I can report that posting my home page file on my space on the Web did the trick. I could then enter a standard URL in Firefox and it finds the file as my home page, as expected. So I'm happy to declare this a "solution", but what a pain! But it's in line with your conclusion evhenry, so I will select your post as problem solved.
