15+ years of Cox Communications email is now in Thunderbird, now what?
I would like to delete most email in Cox asap because my storage max has been reached. Meanwhile, I would like to save email migrated to T-bird gradually. I write "gradually" because it is slow process, one email at a time copied and pasted into a Word doc. Would severing the connection between Thunderbird and and Cox enable me to achieve this goal? If so, how is the connection severed (without losing email already migrated to T-bird)?
Clear as mud? Thoughts on a better way of saving old email? Thank you.

Copy mail from Cox folders to Local Folders, confirm that the copied mail is intact, then delete it from the Cox folders. Once it's in Local Folders, you can remove the Cox account from TB if you like. Another approach is to use a (Windows) app like MailStore Home to archive all your TB mail.
Step 1. Know the difference between POP and IMAP email protocols and how each one works. Step 2. Know which one you are using.
Then make folders under the Local Folders account in Thunderbird and copy the emails there. I say copy because if you try to Move a message and something goes wrong the only copy of that message is gone. If you Copy a message you have the opportunity to make sure the message exists in the new location before you delete the other copy.
I have no idea where you think Word comes into this process.

Use the import export tools. https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools-ng/?src=ss
They will export selected mail to a specified system folder in a variety of formats, including HTML which would be ideal for import to word documents for writing the memoir. I would however strongly recommend you keep copies in Thunderbird local folders as that does make viewing contents and search much easier than using the file system and windows search.
