firefox sign up will not accept my email, says "invalid"

Is it possible that your email address was used in the past for any Firefox services or Mozilla websites / sub-domains?
With the slow stage-by-stage conversion over to Firefox Accounts (over a number of years) for multiple different Mozilla domains / services, that email address might already be "spoken for".
If so, that could be why it shows up as "invalid". Has happened to me, a few times.
