Legit E-mail suddenly now going straight to junk
I discovered that E-mail suddenly from my sister started to go directly to the junk file. I've moved them to the inbox several times, but each time within a few minutes the same E-mails disappear from inbox and go back to junk file. Once in the junk file they become marked as "not read" even though they were read. This only started in early Oct and I haven't notice it occurring with E-mail from anyone else...yet. I fear this will happen with any E-mail she sends and could start happening with E-mail from other people. Why is this happening and how can I make it stop? Can someone please help me? Thank you.

Who is your email provider? What version of Thunderbird do you have installed?
This used to be very common with Yahoo junk processing but Thunderbird was modified some releases ago to fix that as Yahoo did not offer any way to opt out of their actions. I assume AOL and Verizon now behave the same as Yahoo being all the same thing, but none should cause that sort of issue in V68 or 78.
Thank you for replying, Matt. I have T-bird version 78.3.2. Your explanation semi solved the problem. When you said Verizon behaves the same way, it occurred to me that although the internet/E-mail provider on my desk top is Time Warner (Spectrum), I have a Verizon mobile device which is tapped into my TW E-mail. The same E-mails were in the spam box on the tablet. I had to move them to the inbox on the tablet. Now they stay put on the inboxes on the desk top and the tablet.
Unfortunately, this doesn't explain WHY this started happening. As I said, it is only since early Oct and as far as I can tell, only my sister's E-mails. Did Verizon change an algorithm in early Oct? Can this be fixed? Why should what happens on the tablet affect the desk top in just this case? Except for one other unrelated issue that was resolved, nothing else that happens on one device has affected the other. Thanks again for your help.
My understanding from a bug report I read yesterday suggesting the workarounds implemented in Thunderbird to fix bug on the Spectrum server are no longer needed is that Spectrum have implemented a new version of the IMAP server software they use.
Thank you, again, Matt. I don't really understand your last response, but I get the feeling that basically I think what you're saying is that Tbird stopped doing whatever it was they were doing that was preventing my problem. No way for me, the user to fix it?
Can I go back to an earlier version? I think 68 was the one prior to 78. I had very few problems then. In fact functions actually did what I wanted them to and in general worked better. So can I just find v68 and redownload that? Will that overwrite 78? Thanks.
My incoming mail is going directly to deleted folder as of today 10/20. When I try to move it or send myself a new message it all goes to deleted.. anyone know what is going on?
Lindabrody: That sounds very similar to my issue (with the exception that mine is going to junk file, it started about 3 weeks ago, and it's only from one sender...so far).
The gentleman who was helping me (see above replies) said it has something to do with verizon (and a few other carriers). Do any of your devices run with verizon or any of the others? My mobile device carrier is Verizon and I use the same E-mail for both DT (Spectrum) and MD. Follow what I did in my 1st response to Matt (hopefully I was clear about what I did). Unfortunately this does not prevent future messages from going to junk. It only retrieves already downloaded messages from junk file and puts them in my inbox where they stay put. And unless I simply didn't understand his explanation, I don't know how to make it stop.
Ha Ha Ha I subscribed to this issue "Legit E-mail suddenly now going straight to junk" hoping for a solution to legit [occasionally random] emails going into "BULK MAIL (junk)" folder despite repeatedly marking them 'not junk.' Guess where I found the email verification to subscribe request - in my "BULK MAIL (junk)" folder!! TB 78.7.0 Verizon email via AOL servers.

And Bulk mail is a Yahoo folder name, offering you any clues... You are now a yahoo customer and subject to their definition of what is spam.
