Saved JPGs not readable by other apps [FF82]

more options

When I visit sites and try to save JPGs to my system, often times the saved image is not readable on my system by any other apps except Firefox. I tried renaming them to png to see if that would change things, but no. The latest batch of images I saved that exhibit this behavior is from aliexpress.com Some sites (unrelated?) only offer webp images to be saved so I usually have to use a different browser to force the images to jpg instead. The images on aliexpress are still identifying as jpg so I don't think the webp issue as rearing here.

Is there any harm in trying to block webp images?

It depends on how you do it. If you completely disable WebP from working, you may not get any YouTube thumbnails (and see glitches on some other sites). That's why my extension simply discourages sites from re-compressing JPEG files with additional WebP encoding. More info: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/dont-accept-webp/

A lot of websites automatically serve WebP (.webp) files if they detect that the browser supports this format. There are extensions that try to force JPG (.jpg) files.

You can check an image file is a hex viewing utility. A JPF file has a JFIF header, so if this header is missing then you likely have a different format. If you open the file in a Firefox tab then you can check the formst in "Tools -> Page Info -> Media".

Thank you kindly for the response. Is there any harm in trying to block webp images? Are sites going to this format eventually? I love the irony of the Firefox ads on Twitter, they say "UNFVCK THE INTERNET" but yet it seems as though every time there's an update, some function FVCKS things up.

Do you have the same issue with a new version of Firefox?
