Thunderbird upgrade to 91 - Unable to add gmail accounts
My thunderbird upgraded overnight to version 91.1.2 and ever since I am unable to connect my google (gmail) accounts. I receive the error: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password."
I am able to log into gmail with the username/password through a browser.
I use 2-step authentication on my gmail accounts, so it prompts me for my username and password, then confirms through my phone. It gets to the screen that says Thunderbird wants access to mail, calendars, contacts and I click on Allow.
I removed all of my accounts/cleared cache/cleared password files/tried debug mode and they all have the same results.
My last ditch effort will be to un-install Thunderbird and re-install and add back my 8 e-mail accounts again.
Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?
I am running on Windows 10
TIA,
Mark

See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1352811 for the correct settings.
Besides that, your antivirus or VPN, if you have one, could be factors in blocking the connection.
Update: I un-installed Thunderbird, deleted the AppData/Thunderbird directory and files and re-installed. I still am unable to complete a gmail account connection. My local e-mail server connects fine.
I use Google calendars to sync my calendars across multiple devices. Without being able to connect to my Google accounts through Thunderbird, I have no way to see all of my appointments in one place.
I tried to connect just through the Add Calendar function, but after going through the 2-Step authentication, there is a blip and it stays on the window that is asking to Find Calendars.

The OAuth process for gmail shouldn't depend on whether or not you have 2-step verification. Check that everything is set up according to the link I posted above, especially accepting cookies in TB.
I was able to get things to work, but it was very kludgy... I had to add the gmail accounts, get the error and then click on the advanced configuration which created the account in Thunderbird despite the error. Then I went in and changed the authentication to password and clicked on the inbox. It prompted me for a password. I generated an application password in Google and used that instead of the Google Account password and mail started to flow again.
