The download page indicates it is compatible with Firefox 5.

Unfortunately there's no support information on the download page, so I don't know where to refer you for help with that add-on. Each add-on developer is responsible for supporting what they create.

thanks - since no support I can't trouble shoot the problem so I give up. It was such a useful tool for me before but now doesn't work as indicated when I go thru steps to download it. doesn't seem to install at all.

I just installed Readability 1.6 to check it out for you. No problem installing it on WinXP Firefox 5.0 and it works for me. Have you tried right-click on the Add to Firefox button on the download page and use Save Link As... to save it to your computer (like the Desktop)? Then you can use File > Open File... or {Ctrl + O} in Firefox to do a "local install" of that extension.
