Firefox 6.0 started crashing unpredictably two days ago and has continued to crash since after I did a restore point back to when it was working OK and before a Adobe Flash Player was updated to 10.3. Several suggestions on the Firefox Help forum suggest to go back to vers 3.6.17 to temporarily work-around this problem. I am using Window XP-Pro,SP3 and my antivirus is running clean everytime.

So you have had Firefox 6.0 installed and in use for while and then it just started to crash or did it start crashing at first new Firefox start?.

Since you are on Windows, is your antivirus up to date on the definitions as there is a trojan malware that may cause crashes. https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forums/contributors/707453

Have you submitted crash reports as perhaps it may help narrow down the cause of the crashes. Type about:crashes in Location (address) bar and post recent links if any. https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+crashes+when+you+open+it?#w_getting-your-crash-report

In the end if you must still downgrade then the current 3.6.* version with is 3.6.20 can be found at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

My sister updated firefox to 3.6.21 and it has been crashing regularly. The last installer I saved was 3.6.16 which is a good fix. The last reliable version I had, for which I did not save the installer, was 3.6.17 and I would like to get a copy of that as a backup. I am running win xp and my sister is running win vista. However, 3.6.21 is the only older version I can find here and since she is having trouble with that I don't want it. There was a prior version 4. something or other which did not work on her computer at all which is why I re-installed 3.6.16 thereby fixing her browser issues.

I have downloaded the new ver 6 this evening but I see where others running ver 6 are having crash issues. Not sure I want to risk the new version at this time.

So, how can I get either 3.6.17 or 3.6.18 ????

Thank you.

I notice that, so far, no one has addressed my recent question. When I came on today, to check out the newest release of FF, I found many concerns about FF 7.0 malfunctioning. Seems to me that the FF development team has failed to understand the demise of Netscape following its acquisition by AwOL.

First they added a lot of their stuff to Netscape. Next they tried to make it look and act like Internet Explorer. This last proved the demise of Netscape as AwOL finally did what IE never could. AwOL destroyed Netscape and the user community simply gave up on it. FF has had nothing, that I can see, but more problems since 3.6.18 with all the changes they are making.

Suggestion to the development team: take a deep breath and look back on FF 3.6.18 and earlier and learn what worked. Then re-think your current revisions.

Just a little FYI: supported or not, I will continue to use the OLD version of FF because it is reliable, something your new releases up to and including ver 7 can't seem to be.
