I use openSUSE 11.4 64 bits, KDE desktop, FireFox 6.0.2..

How can I store, for certain web sites, my login and my password, it all being protected by a master password ? I followed the hints given in the help file, but to no avail.

Do I have to change one or more lines in about:config ?

Thank you,

W

On Linux use:

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Edit > Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Edit > Preferences > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

No, you do not have to change anything in about:config.
Which help file did you refer to?

See these articles on making Firefox remember your passwords and using a master password to protect them:
Password manager - Remember, delete, change and import saved passwords in Firefox
Use a Primary Password to protect stored logins and passwords

Protecting stored passwords using a master password

I followed all steps that were indicated, even typed in an new master password.

When I go on an website which requires a password (e.g. Gmail) , nothing happens, nothing asks me if I want to store the password.

Password Manager

Username and Password not remembered

Check and tell if its working.

-> IF you use Clear Recent History feature, DO NOT select Cookies, Forms and Search History, Active Logins, Site Preferences

-> IF you use Privacy Cleanup softwares like CCleaner, DON'T SELECT FIREFOX IN ITS SETTINGS. These softwares can be responsible for Deleting your Firefox Settings.

Please confirm that the following setting is checked: Edit > Preferences > Security > Remember passwords for sites.

edit: changed menu options since OP is on Linux! My bad.

Indeed, I had Private Browsing on. After "untagging" it, I could introduce passwords. Thanks to all of you.
