export / import sessionstore?

Last night I had to restart my Firefox because a new version of Java plugin asked for it. After the restart all my sessions were lost. I tried to get it back with sessionstore.bak but it didn't work out either. So now I think maybe I can get it back if I export my sessionstore.bak to a different browser (for example IE?) and import it back to Firefox.

There's a way to do so?

Hi!

Sorry to read that.

Have you looked at this article: Recover important data from an old profile ??

If that doesn't work either, your solution proposal sound feasible but if Firefox is unable to get the info from the sessionstore.bak I'm not sure if IE or Chrome would do it either. There seems nothing to lose though.

And just to be clear, you should try to open the other browser and tell it to import the data from Firefox.

It may be possible on Windows 7 to restore a previous version of sessionstore.js to get back your lost session.

Firefox copies sessionstore.js to sessionstore.bak at the start of a session to make it possible to restore that session at any time via History > Restore Previous Session.
If a rename from sessionstore.bak to sessionstore.js also doesn't bring back that session then try the suggestion that I posted above to see if there is a version of sessionstore.js that has that session data.

I tried, but it didn't work out :( So I have a few more qeustions

1. Recovering important data from an old profile doesn't say nothing about sessionstore.js oder sessionstore.bak

2. How can I import one of those 2 files in IE? The import / export function of IE only gives me 3 options and neither of them is a session restore?

3. renaming sessionstore.bak to sessionstore.js doesn't work what other suggestions you have cor-el?

Thanks for your help!

You can't import a Firefox session directly in IE.

The only way to do that would be to open that session in Firefox and bookmark all open tabs via the right-click context menu of a tab and then export the bookmarks to an HTML file and import that HTML file in IE.

thx for your answer cor-el , but remember that I cannot start that session anymore :(

But what I have is an old sessionstore-1.js File which is like 5 days older than my sessionstore.bak. I rename the sessionstore-1.js File into sessiontore.js, start Firefox and it works fine, except those sessions in betwhen those 5 days. So how can I find out the missing sessions in between sessionstore-1-js and sessionstore.bak?

If you weren't able to restore that session in Firefox by renaming sessionstore.bak to sessionstore.js then IE can't help you as well with this.

You can copy sessionstore-1.js to sessionstore.js to see if that brings back some of the lost tabs.
The existence of such a temporary sessionstore file with a number indicates that something went wrong in that session and Firefox wasn't able to complete that action.

And how can I save the time and sessions in between sessionstore-1.js and sessionstore.bak?
