I use a 2 Macs one running running Snow leopard and the other Lion. At some point I was on a a Tom Tom web page on both of these machines in my Firefox preferences on both machines google is set to be the page that opens on startup. Everytime I turn on the computer after being shut down and I open Firefox the TomTom web page appears. Once the computer is on I can close Firefox or go to a new window and Google opens. How can I stop this TomTom web page from opening when I fist star using my computer and Firefox.?

Change your home page back to your preference from Preferences > General. You can also lock in your home page by copying the setting to a user.js file from prefs.js. This user.js file is kept in the profile with prefs.js.
