I'm unable to get the Java (TM) Platform added to my Firefox Browser. I have spent well over 20hrs trying everything I could find here in Firefox support. As a last resort I deleted all Firefox files from numerous locations and installed a fresh copy of firefox. However I must have missed something cause after installing the fresh copy I noticed all the same old plugins appeared in the Addons List. I have no problems with any of my other browsers. My situation is actually the same as several others I read here, only difference is I have the most recent versions of Java and Firefox installed. All others I read were 2+ yrs ago. Just like others, java.com says something is wrong java is not working. I would appreciate any support given.

Do you have the required registry key that Firefox uses to scan for installed plugins?

  • HKCU\Software\MozillaPlugins\plugin-id
  • HKLM\Software\MozillaPlugins\plugin-id

Try to uninstall and reinstall Java.
You may need to run the Java installer as Administrator (right-click: Run as > Administrator) to make sure that the required registry keys are created.

Try to uninstall Java with the JavaRa program and reinstall (32 bit) Java.

See Java Platform > Java SE 7U9 or Java 6U37 (Download JRE)

Thanks so much for responding. Nothing suggested worked. I was unable to figure out how to install the registry keys first mentioned. "Right click and run as a administrator" requires a password that I could not find in your instructions.

I also cannot find the Java platform plugin. Firefox told me there were problems with Java some weeks back and that I should update it. I have tried to do this for weeks - but it either fails, or if I can get it to install I do not get the java plugin platform! I have uninstalled Java, and every trace of it I can find, before reinstalling. I have used CCleaner to clean up the registry, to uninstall everything that looked relevant, have rebooted my computer (and all this several times now, over several weeks and counting). I have deleted blocklist.xml and pluginreg.dat as per https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2012/04/04/update-on-java-blocklist/ I have now been able to reinstal Java - but can only install the 64 bit version. The 32 bit version fails every time. If I can't fix, I will have to use another browser, because I have to use Java to record webinars I run for my business! Appreciate this might be a Java issue too, and I have written to them. I have just seen a lot of threads about this problem, but after days of digging, I have not been able to find a solution that works. Hoping someone else has the magic button! thanks

hello Z71Tahoe do you have it (see the screenshoot) in

C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\dtplugin

if yes, any luck if you copy and paste it to firefox plugin folder ? :

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins

thank you

more options

Yes I do have this: C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\dtplugin

Edit: I DO NOT have the following> C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins

Here is what I do have> C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins

Everything in the "searchplugins" folder is a .xml file.

Responded above please help.

hi again, you can create the file with the name plugins(in the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) but you need, as cor-el said above to create also a registry key(string value) to HKLM\Software\Mozilla\Mozilla Firefox 16.0.2\extensions {because firefox need to know from where to read the information} with the name Plugins and data C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins.

Please explain how to create registry key. Can you possibly make an example of this that I can copy & paste?

I am in the same boat - have the dtplugins folder with deployJava1.dll in Java, but no plugins folder under Mozilla Firefox

Additionally - my Java install is 64 bit.

Will this copy-and-paste method work with 64bit Java and, what I understand is 32bit Firefox?

more options

Guys, as I explained I need your help with instructing me on how to create and use the registry key. I have searched for the info but I'm not coming up with anything that matches my application. If possible, Please take a little time and explain this to me or post a link to the info if you know of any. Thanks!

annap,

You will have to install the 32 bit Java version.
Firefox is a 32 bit application and doesn't work with 64 bit Java.

First go to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ and create a new folder called Plugins

In Windows XP, click on the Start button and then Run > write Regedit > click Ok > right-click My computer > select export > give a file name and a position to save a copy from your regedit, in a case of a mistake.

then as above, click on the Start button and then Run > write Regedit > click Ok > extent/expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > extent Software > extent Mozilla > extent Mozilla Firefox 16.0.2 > click extensions > then right click anywhere in the right window (the window referred name type data) > select NEW > select String Value > give name Plugins > click on the new you just create called Plugins > select Modify > give the path C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins > click Ok > exit Regedit from file>exit.

see screenshot how your new key looks like

then try my first reply, to copy the plugin....

BUT check also, now you are in registry, cor-el's first reply....."Do you have the required registry key that Firefox uses to scan for installed plugins?"

because first firefox read from HKCU\Software\MozillaPlugins\plugin-id and HKLM\Software\MozillaPlugins\plugin-id

HKCU is HKEY_CURRENT_USER (expand Software etc.)

if does not solve the issue you can delete the key you just create any time.

it is not so difficult, but beware little

thanks

Wow your instructions were awesome!

It looks to me as though there is NO /plugin-id for java in the MozillaPlugins/ folder. *See screenshot

Please advise me what I should do from this point? Btw, thank you so much for the time you have spent helping me on this.

hi again, yes no plugin-id, but you have the registry key(see screenshot), now go to my first reply and.... in

C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\dtplugin

find, copy and paste(see 2nd screenshot) to firefox plugin folder

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins

start firefox.

thanks again

ideato I did what you suggested and here are the results.

When adding the dtplugin folder to the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins and exiting and restarting firefox, nothing changed. It still did not work.

I then removed the 2 files that were in the dtplugins folder and paste them in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins and exit and restart. I tested on my website and got it to work. But then went on java.com and tested and it continued to say Something was wrong with Java. I then tried my website test again and it no longer worked.

Now, last night I removed all stuff related to java from with in the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\blocklist.xml\ file, and everything worked. The java console shortcut even displayed once again in the Tools menu. And java.com displayed everything as being ok.

But in the Add-ons page showed my version of java needed updated. And after updating java and rebooting the pc it all went back to not working.

So at this point it can be made to work, it just doesn't stay working. My guess is the blocklist.xml file has something to do with all of this. But whatever that maybe I have no idea?
