cannot use the mouse to copy and paste using firefox21

more options

Hi, When I'm using my browser firefox21 and use the mouse to highlight some text I wish to copy then right click on the mouse and select copy Then the highlight on the text disappears and won't let me copy and paste using the mouse

I have tried reset firefox to it's default - and still have the problem I have no addons installed - I did a malware scan using malwarebytes and all shows clear

I also did a clean reinstall of firefox and still have the issue to copy and paste

I did try other browser chrome and did not have the problem using the mouse

Is this an issue with the firefox browser 21

Thanks - Steve

Does this happen on all sites, or only on some sites?

Some sites may have "anti-copying" scripts that change what happen when you right-click. To prevent sites from preempting Firefox's normal context menu, try the third "Advanced JavaScript" setting described in this article: JavaScript settings and preferences for interactive web pages (uncheck the third box).

Does that make any difference?

(Incidentally, I noticed on Google Groups threads that if you select widely, the selection is cleared when you right-click, but if you select a little less, it doesn't clear. I haven't studied the pattern in detail.)

Actually, it sounds as though you are getting the menu. To try to block sites from interfering with the copy action, you can switch a setting under the covers.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the filter box, type or paste clipb and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled to switch its value from true to false.

(If that doesn't help, you can switch it back to true again in case there are sites that you WANT to be able to mess with your clipboard.)

Hi,

Doing what you suggested here:

Does this happen on all sites, or only on some sites?

Seems to have fixed the problem I was having using the mouse to copy & paste

Not sure If My reply went through - Apologies if double posted

Thank You - Steve :)

Hi Steve, no worries.

There is a side effect of this change you may notice on some sites that have their own right-click menu: it will open behind Firefox's right-click menu. I generally notice this on Google maps. If you tap the Esc key, Firefox's menu will clear and then you can use the site's menu.
