ON yahoo logon, firefox does not store address & password

On the Yahoo Log on screen, Firefox does not store the email address and password as it did previously. How do I make it store this info so it will come up when I log onto Yahoo Mail? "Remember passwords for sites" is checked in Password Manager.

That web page is using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving and filling the name and password.

You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save names and passwords and other form data.

For quite some time now, Yahoo has designed its login form to resist automatic filling.

The first problem is that the username and password fields are marked autocomplete="off" which is how Firefox lets sites instruct Firefox not to save those fields. There are two ways to switch that so Firefox will remember the login:

(1) Manually edit using the built-in Inspector tool, see: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/963553?page=2#answer-458120

(2) Automatically edit using a bookmarklet, see: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/963553#answer-451108

Then when you log in Firefox should offer to save the login. Any luck?

The forum software detected your Firefox as version 21. Is that correct?

Version 21 is not secure; Mozilla discloses security flaws after each new release. Is something holding you back from upgrading to Firefox 24? Please let us know so we can suggest solutions or workarounds.

If Help > About Firefox shows Firefox 24.0, you may need to clear the preference that is misreporting your version number. See: How to reset the default user agent on Firefox.

jscher2000 I tried your option 1 by changing autocomplete to "on" but Firefox still does not bring up by email address and password when I go to the Yahoo log screen. I believe I still have Firefox version 21. Can this make a difference and how do I upgrade to version 24?

I am hesitant to use Bookmarklet because I am potentially exposing my passwords on line. What do you think?

Hi VitoCastellano, the change (either by hand or using the bookmarklet) modifies the HTML of the page you are viewing. When you submit the form, it's still a secure submission to Yahoo only.

So Firefox didn't offer to save the password after changing the form and submitting? Yahoo might have changed something (again). I don't know whether Firefox 24 would be better or worse for this problem; people are still reporting it in other threads.

The easiest way to upgrade is to open the following dialog and click the Check for Updates button:

Help > About Firefox

One note about a major change after Firefox 21:

If you set Windows to a larger font size (e.g., 125%) you will notice that Firefox 22-24 automatically applies that same zoom level to pages displayed in Firefox. For many users that looks natural, but depending on your screen size, it might be too large, or if you already use an add-on to enlarge pages, you might need to deactivate it to avoid a double-enlargement.
