hello, just downloaded thrunderbird to consolidate all my email addresses. i have 3 gmail and a hotmail account but thunderbird doesn't automatically pull in all my contacts. when using gmail and hotmail, both automatically detect contacts just by typing in the first few letters of the person't name.

how do i get Thunderbird to do the same? please help, thank you! Amira

You need to import your contacts data from those other address books into Thunderbird.

Most generally: go to each email provider's website and look for options to export the address book.

Thunderbird can natively import LDIF and CSV file formats, and with this add-on: https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html it can work with vCard formats too.

Specifically for Googlemail: there are various add-ons that can link an address book in Thunderbird to Google Contacts. I use gContactSync.
