Also used "get more dictionaries" in Thunderbird spelling check box. This didn't download the Britsh English dictionary selected - just got a "rotating icon" as though it was trying to download - but didn't download it. Several attempts made.

OS: Linux Mint 17 cinnamon.

Just right click and save it to disk then in Thunderbird you can open file in TB or in Addons Manager or i think even drag and drop onto TB window to install it.

Hello,

Sometimes toolbars are missing because they are hidden, you just need to bring them back up. Visit this article to learn how to bring them back: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars. You can learn tips and tricks at the same time.

James 1. On Mozilla site only "Install" option available but able to download zip file from dictionary home page to disk. 2. Unzipped it. 3. "Dragged" it onto TB. British English dictionary then appeared as an option in spell checker. Great!

Problem solved - hopefully!

Thank you

It should be a .xpi file and not a .zip file.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/british-english-dictionary-/ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/british-english-dictionary-2/

Just right-click and Save Link As to save a filename.xpi

Only the en-US and maybe a couple other like fr comes with a dictionary due to licensing reasons.

Downloaded Brit dictionary from one site as .xpi file. When tried to install got "error, file appears corrupted".

BUT today: TB Addon Manager- search box"dictionary"- this gave list of dictionaries - picked British English - pressed Install button and dictionary was installed automatically. This route worked but the "install more languages" option either via a) spelling button in write message mode or b) via configuration settings hadn't with several attempts!

PROBLEM Solved. Thank you for your help.
