How do I turn off the new tab button
I have FireFox 31.0 set up on my current computer and I have the New Tab button tuned off. I cannot for the life of me see where I did this. Trying to set up a new computer and need help. How do I turn this off?
Chosen solution
I should call it the small, inconspicuous "+" in future posts. ;-)

Do you mean that you do not want the about:newtab page to open when you click the new tab button on the Tab Bar, but another page?
You can set that page via the browser.newtab.url pref on the about:config page.
See this article about the New Tab page (about:newtab):
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware. Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is and what it does. Also, check the programs that are on your computer
Windows: Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.
Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't know what it is, use a web search.

cor-el NO that is not what I asked. i asked how to turn off the new tab button. I open a new tab by double clicking in the tab bar. The button is redundant and not needed.
FredMcD I was thinking it was an add on but I have gone through every setting I can find in every add on that I have installed (not many BTW) and I do not see this option. At one point there was an add on call remove new tab button but it no longer available. I checked in about:config to see if I had any parameters set to other than default that might be relevant be I did not see anything.
Use the Customize feature. Drag the "+" into the dialog with the unused icons.
jscher2000 There is no "+" icon to drag. When I go into Customize, the add new tab button with the "+" on it disappears. I don't see another "+" other than the "- +" for the zoom control.
Of course two seconds after posting that last reply I find the "+" that you were talking about. I did not see it hiding all the way over there on the right! Thank you...

Go into Customize page. Look for the + There are three things you can do with it
- 1 leave it in the bank
- 2 place it at the far right of the window
- 3 place it just to the right of the last tab.
When you close Customize, that is where it will stay.
