Cannot copy/paste links into Facebook comments
For some reason, starting about 10 days ago, I can no longer paste links into Facebook comment fields. I can paste text; but when I copy a link and try and paste it, nothing happens; it's as though I never copied the link.
I've followed the suggestions in this thread: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1006323#answer-660703
1 - reloaded from the server 2 - cleared cookies 3 - disabled all extensions and restarted in safe mode
Nothing has helped.
I *can*, however, paste when I'm using Chrome, so it's almost certainly a Firefox issue (as compared to a Facebook problem).
Any suggestions/fixes will be most appreciated!

If nothing is working then I would suspect a script that Facebook runs on those pages and that block some key presses.

What do you think about updating Firefox ? I'm sure that any addons you're using now ca be replace by another addon or another way to do what it does.
About your problem, how do you do copy/paste ? I mean, what links can you not paste ? The ones in the url bar ? Or the ones in a web page ? Do you use mouse right-click to select the line "copy" then the line "paste" ?
Well - I don't think it has anything to do with the version of FF -- the problem started 10 days ago, and I've been using my version for a long time.
I disabled all addons, so I don't think it's an addon causing the problem.
If I copy a link and try to paste into a Facebook comment box -- nothing pastes. However, if I then paste it elsewhere, it's still there (I can paste it) - so the link *is* definitely on the clipboard .... It just doesn't paste anything into the box. It's as though I'm not actually pasting.
It's *any* link, but only when pasting into a Facebook comment box.
It is not necessary linked to you FF version, but it could be too. Because Facebook often makes changes on its websites. And an old version of FF could make mistake in the code interpretation, like the javascript part. Or somes of FB applications could have trouble without the last FF version. But it's only an hypothesis.
An other possibility is the adware (malware), called pushow**.dll, like pushow35.dll, in c:\windows\system32 , if you're infected by it.
By the way, have you consulted https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-problems-facebook-games-chat-and-more ?
Hi,
I definitely don't have the dll adware you referred to (just checked). I'm definitely not sure what the issue is.
I hadn't/haven't checked the forum you mentioned -- I actually tweeted my request, and was directed here! I'll check/post there now, in hopes it's a common issue (that's been solved already). Thanks!
Chris

- [/questions/1034172] Why can't I use some keys when using Facebook with Grammarly enabled?
Definitely not the Grammarly extension -- I don't have that installed and I actually restarted FF in safe mode, with all extensions disabled; still no luck!
Try to use keyboard shortcuts if the buttons on the web page or other methods aren't working.
- Copy: Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Insert (Mac: Command + C)
- Paste: Ctrl+V or Shift+Insert (Mac: Command + V)
- Cut: Ctrl+X or Shift+Delete (Mac: Command + X)
Heh - that's the way I usually copy and paste, anyway (I'm an old Dos Guy, so I use the keyboard far more than the mouse!)
And that's working ? So sorry, I should have insisted on my first message, about the question "how do you paste"... Thanks, Corel !
No - nothing works for copy and paste (not using the mouse *or* the keystrokes) -- I was just saying that the recommendation Corel made is the way I usually copy and paste, regardless.
Sorry if that was misleading :(

Mmmh. Would you try to see which function is disabled : copy or paste ? Try to copy, but then to paste into a textpad application. Try to copy from a textpad application then to paste into Firefox (on FB ).
Hi Cor-el ...
Well, it works in Chrome; not in Firefox, so I'm inclined to think it's more browser-related than Facebook-related
Gnarrk,
I can copy and then paste into text document I can't paste into FB ... I can copy something in FB and paste it into a text document -- so, you're right, it's definitely the "paste" function.
I am unable to paste anything into FB -- I had only tried to paste links; but, you're right, I can't paste anything from a clipboard *to* a comment field.
If I copy something, try to paste into FB (it fails); if I then go to a text document, the copied text is still on the clipboard (and can be pasted after that).
Did you check if Ctrl+Insert works in case only the Ctrl key is blocked?
- Copy: Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Insert (Mac: Command + C)
- Paste: Ctrl+V or Shift+Insert (Mac: Command + V)
- Cut: Ctrl+X or Shift+Delete (Mac: Command + X)
cor-el,
Yes - none of the options for paste works (not mouse or keystroke).
And I guess the "paste" function works on any other website, with Firefox ?
If yes, that means one of the script of the Facebook website doesn't manage the data in the clipboard. Not anymore, as the problem appears not long ago. And when I say this, I mean that in fact "one of the script" is no more able to be correctly interpreted by your Firefox.
What about trying a new version of Firefox ? Do you know there's the possibility to install the "Nightly" version, without desinstalling your actual version of Firefox ? Like this, you could try it, and see if you could handle it after a few days of testing. And still have the possibility to use your old Firefox.
Right - I can paste anywhere else; *and* I can paste to FB using Chrome ... so it's definitely Facebook *and* Firefox combined (not just Facebook; and not just Firefox).
I don't know the "nightly" version what are details on that?
OK - so, I upgraded to the newest Firefox ...
Yes, that solved the problem with Facebook; however, as expected, it opened up a HOST of new issues (which I spent 4+ hours correcting yesterday, and there are still some remaining (regarding font size and UI on each web page).
This is what I had hoped to avoid -- since I knew, from previous attempts, that Firefox had taken on a bit of an attitude of "Oh, this works really well ... let's change it anyway!"
But, for the purposes of *this* problem (pasting into Facebook), the upgrade worked. It just broke a whole lot more ... :(
Really sorry about that, and this is why I told you about installing a "Nightly Firefox" (a beta version, the version just before the released version), because like this you could have worked with 2 versions of Firefox at the same time : the Nightly version doesn't install on the released version. By the way, you still have the possibility to install Firefox 21 (you know about that ? ) if it makes too much trouble for you to work with the last version. Ask if you don't find on this website how to do, or if you need help for the new problems.
One thing you'll have to assimilate, and I understand how annoying it can be, is that all the other applications, OS, websites, are evoluting, and this is why you have to upgrade your Firefox years after years, and have to come back in the settings, to test new addons, to try to have the same results as before. Computers need you to be in a perpetual adaptation...
Actually, while it was a pain-in-the-neck, I managed to get everything close to where it was before.
I tried to install the nightly version; I think it needs to have an add-on, as well -- when I went to the nightly build site, and installed; it overwrote the current install. Ah well.
Everything works now (I installed a bunch of new add-ons to tweak everything to look the way it did before) -- there's just one thing that I'd love to correct.
I posted about it here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1036729
