New Sync With Outlook.com Extremely Slow, Frequently Drops Connection

I recently installed Thunderbird to help me migrate emails to my Gmail account from Outlook.com & iCloud via manual IMAP copying.

The Gmail sync took a while, as expected, but completed without issue. I then added my Outlook.com account (IMAP) and have been struggling to get it to sync that account's data.

Downloading emails frequently stalls (I've let it run for days but it never completes or makes progress), opening folders takes forever, I get an error message about the connection being dropped very frequently, and there appear to be damaged headers as I suddenly have ten emails with the dumb 1969 date stamp.

I don't usually use Thunderbird so I'm not sure if it's a matter of incorrect configuration or something, but the fact that it had no trouble with the Gmail account leads me to believe this might have to do with Outlook.com.

Has anyone else encountered this? Any ideas for getting it to download the Outlook.com archive successfully?

FWIW, gmail syncing is rate limited by Google. I don't know about outlook.com

I've seen someone post similar information. I don't remember what came of it.
