In prior versions of FF, the cursor defaulted to the address bar whenever FF or a new FF window was opened. That's gone with 38.0.1. Is there a way bring back the good ol' days . . . set FF so the cursor defaults to the address bar rather than the mid-screen search bar when a new FF window is opened?

A new window opens the home page, so you can consider to set the home page to about:blank and possibly use a bookmark on the Bookmarks Toolbar to open your current home page.
