Any fix for failed searches using Yahoo and Firefox 40.0.2?
My email server is ATT Yahoo.
If I click on a link in one of my email messages (i.e., http://act.alternet.org/go/63374?t=2&akid=13384.205788.tixIG9) it opens a new window, but the page doesn't load.
However, if I copy the link location, open a new tab, paste the above link location, and click on the Go arrow, I go to the correct page (http://www.alternet.org/environment/beyond-unacceptable-judge-oks-uranium-mine-grand-canyon?akid=13384.205788.tixIG9&rd=1&src=newsletter1040920&t=2), and it successfully loads.
If I click on a link that's retrieved using Yahoo's search, I seem to go to the correct page, but it doesn't load.
However, if I use the above method, the page successfully loads in the new tab.
Apparently pages found using Yahoo won't load in new windows, but they will load in new tabs.

I think these might both be redirection situations involving outbound link tracking.
Do you have Firefox's (limited) redirect block turned on? You can check on the Advanced panel of the Options page:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the General mini-tab, in the Accessibility section, uncheck the box for "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page"
If you changed that setting, does it help with either link?
Or do you use any extensions or userscripts related to link cleaning/tracking that might not work correctly in Firefox 40? You can review your extensions, and disable ones that are possible culprits, on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
After re-reading your post, I noticed the new window/new tab distinction. I don't know whether this is a critical difference. If you Ctrl+click the Yahoo mail/search links (or middle-click them with the mouse wheel) to send them to a new tab instead of a new window, does that work any better?
