I can't print the attachment from an e-mail. I just get the e-mail showing there is an attachment even though attachment is open.

You need to work with any attachment with the software that the attachment is created in or that can open it. For example you would open a .doc attachment in MS Word or Open Office and print from there. Thunderbird just delivers the attachment. You need to appropriate software to open it and work with it. What kind of attachment are you asking about?
