Open link in new tab/window doesn't work

I cannot use the open link in new tab/window/private window feature of the right click menu at all since a few firefox updates ago. I have tried everything I could think of : tried to work around it by using add-ons, purged firefox completely and reinstalled it, deleting all profile files and folder, but nothing helped.

Right now the only thing that works is if I drag the link to the tab bar and open it so in a new tab and "Move to new window" of a tab if I want a new window. But these are not ideal longterm solutions.

It would be one thing if this had been something caused by the latest firefox updates, but it's been persisting for I don't even know how many updates, so it's a longterm problem. (I'm certain it is not a deliberate design decision, or is it?)

Please help me solve this.

EDIT: I should add that I have 3 different profiles on firefox, and that this problem is happening with the default state of firefox, so it can't be add-on related.

Okay, I take it back. Case solved.

To those having similar trouble, the trouble was happening with the default firefox state because even in default I had the add-on "ubuntu modifications for firefox" installed. Apparently that one is the culprit, as disabling it solved the problem.

Sorry for the false alarm. :)
