After update 43.0.1 my history disappears each day. Why?
I've double-checked that no other program is deleting the history, and there are no scheduled tasks running that would do it. I have Firefox set to KEEP history. I DID have a crash at one point - could that have corrupted a user file?? How do I create that corrupted file to check if that is it?
Thank you!

History and cookies can be removed or not recorded several ways;
- 1) Running Firefox in Private Mode (nothing is recorded)
- 2) Privacy settings
(Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar.) - 3) Many disk cleaners and anti-virus type programs can remove data from browsers. Open their settings and have them leave the browsers alone.
- 4) Mal-ware.
In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.
The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.
Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
FredMcD - Thanks very much! After reading your replies, and the article about preferences that don't save, I did a refresh on Firefox and that DID IT! Now, all of my history is showing! I didn't actually lose any history...it just wasn't showing even though I selected "show all history".
Thanks again! Happy New Year to you and yours!
Glad to help. Safe Surfing.
Well, shoot! The next day, and we are back to the same problem.... I only see yesterday's history. I'm guessing (due to what happened with the refresh) the remainder of my history is still there...but only ONE DAY is showing in the history window when I select "show all history". Is there a setting somewhere that needs 'fixing'?? Thanks again in advance!
Do you have nvidia's network access manager or forceware network manager software installed? Disable / remove it.
I'm actually using a pretty old Compaq laptop at the moment, which uses a ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M video set. That uses the CATALYST Control Center. So, no NVIDIA on board.... Any other ideas? I think this only started happening after the 43.0.1 update.....
Install an older version of Firefox {web link}
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks, history) in the Firefox profile folder.
- Places Maintenance: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/places-maintenance/

Keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite needs to be created, but no suitable JSON backups are available to rebuild the bookmarks or you need to keep the history.
You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

I've submitted a bug report to Mozilla about this problem.
FredMcD - after thinking about it, I'm very hesitant to go back to an older version of Firefox because of the security risks. I'd rather just switch to a different browser (Maxthon) until Firefox is fixed.
Cor-el - Thanks for the info on the places maintenance - that worked...and all my history is showing once again. I'll be curious to see if the history "disappears" again tomorrow, as that's what happened after I ran the Refresh...history showed correctly until the next day. I've also made backups as you suggested.... :)
The problem "corrected" itself after updating to 46.0 The next day, the problem started happening again!
