Some of my navigation Toolbar icons go missing. What files determine what gets displayed there? I am using FF 24 and proud of it!

Firefox 24 is no longer supported, we can't help you with that. If you would like to upgrade to Firefox 44 or later we would love to help you. Otherwise I'd recommend you use another browser.

If you are proud of using Firefox 24, why did your browser identify itself to the forum as Internet Explorer 11?!

The Customize feature has always had a button to restore the default toolbar layout so you can re-customize from scratch. Did you try that?

As you probably know, there have been changes to the user interface since Firefox 24 and extensions have been modified to be compatible with newer versions of Firefox -- possibly without retaining full compatibility with older versions. If the problems keep re-occurring with the same extensions, that would be my guess as to the cause.

My question still stands. Has everybody forgotten how the FF of a couple of years ago worked? Just give me a hint here.

BTW For those who despise the 'new look', moving to the new FF will not happen.

How much of a hint do you need?

IOW, take a look at the extensions you are using, the toolbar buttons may no longer be fully compatible with Firefox 24.

The toolbar customization is stored in the browser.uiCustomization.state pref in the prefs.js file.

Thanks cor-el I may try a simple file copy if I have a problem again. I know it is likely not that simple. I may be in store for some kind of running backup.

I am of course running older versions of extensions that ARE listed as compatible with legacy FF. I am not looking for a Nuke it'n ReDuke it 'solution' al la Geek Squad's 'we reinstalled windows for you'. Thanks anyway.

Note that toolbar icons added by an extension will only appear if the involved extensions are installed and enabled.

You post here with IE - which won't offer the option in this forum for providing us with your More System Details so that we can see exactly what extensions that you have installed; you don't even mention which toolbar buttons are 'missing'; you "blow-off" jscher2000 suggestion to "restore the default toolbar layout"; cor-el told you where toolbar customization data is stored; and you come up with an asinine response to my suggestion about researching the "Works with" info about your installed extensions. And all that came after an Administrator here told you "Firefox 24 is no longer supported, we can't help you with that."

Overall, it would be smarter to be using Firefox 28, the last version before the Australis UI came in Firefox 29. As far as us remembering or forgetting what Firefox was like 2 1/2 years ago, we have tried to help you; you're the "odd man out" here. There are no "legacy" versions, besides the ESR version currently based upon Firefox 38; you're using a version that hasn't been supported in quite awhile.

I think we're done here.
