I opened up Firefox and all my bookmarks are gone!!!
I have no idea what happened. I opened up Firefox to discover absolutely all my bookmarks including those from the toolbar are gone!! This is very upsetting to say the least. As far as I know nothing has been updated but even still I have never had this problem before after updating anyway I have years and years worth of bookmarks saved and really don't want to start all over again. Please, help. Tell me there is some way to restore them.
Thanks Paola

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks, history) in the Firefox profile folder.

If the Places Maintenance extension can't repair the places.sqlite database then remove all places.sqlite file(s) in the Firefox profile folder to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox

Hi Paola, could you check three places for me:
(1) Library dialog -- This is the separate window that opens if you choose "Show All Bookmarks" from the menu, or you can use Command+Shift+b. Does the Library dialog show any content in the Bookmarks Menu or Bookmarks Toolbar? If so, there may be a glitch with the interface not reading that information. But if it's empty, then...
(2) Restore menu -- Keep the Library dialog open, and check this article on restoring automatic bookmark backups that Firefox might have handy at the moment: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer. Please don't actually do the restore just yet, but see what you have.
(3) Mac Desktop -- Do you see an Old Firefox Data folder? If so, could you check inside to see how fresh the contents are? This folder is created by the "Refresh" feature and if refresh ran recently, this may have some useful data in it.

Thanks! :)
You know what I restarted my computer yesterday and when I opened up Firefox there they all were. Not sure what happened but it's solved. All my passwords were gone too and I could not save any bookmarks and was not being asked about saving passwords so it was totally blocked somehow. Anyway, It's all right again!
Cheers, Paola
