How can I import addresses in a csv file to a new book or list without changing existing lists?

I have Thunderbird with 2 address books plus collected addresses. I want to import contacts (now in Excel) into either a third address book or a list within one of the 2 address books, without overwriting anything or getting the new addresses buried among existing addresses. I've found the procedure to import via a csv file, but it doesn't say whether the imported addresses will go into a new book or list or will go into an existing one.

Chosen solution

They will go into a new book.

Take care with the names of your csv files. The name of the file is used for the name of the new address book and it is easy to create duplicates of existing address books.
