I have just downloaded Thunderbird 38.7.1.to a new laptop. When trying to download one of my gmail account emails, I get the above message and advice saying that " login to server pop.gmail.com failed". I have double and triple checked my gmail passwords and can log in to my gmail account through Google. I use Mailwasher Pro to check all emails on the server before downloading to Thunderbird and have checked that all passwords and settings are correct. I have 2 gmail accounts - one will download but the second one will not. All settings worked well on my old laptop running Thunderbird 38.6. I am at a loss as to what to try next. Any resolution to this would be appreciated. Regards Judy Thompson

You'll need to allow 'less secure apps' for your Gmail account. https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en
