Configuring Tbird so email download & are removed off remote mailserver

more options

When I open my email, it shows up in mailbox but it also stays on the remote server. How do I configure Thunderbird to NOT leave it on the host server? I keep running out of space on the host server.

Then I suggest you read how IMAP works. It is server based. You do not download messages from the server. You view them remotely. You can create folders under Local Folders in Thunderbird and move messages there. Doing that removes them from the server.
